Here's a site with dozens of images and histories of military and civilian aircraft. The site also includes histories of many aircraft used by U.S. presidents. Click Education from the top menu bar and find a section of lesson plans by scrolling down the page. View a list of the scavenger hunts under the digital resources section. Type videos in the search bar to find a list. This site could assist with research on aviation history or related topics.
In the Classroom
Click on "explore museum exhibits" from the right menu, then scroll down the page and choose from a list of exhibit areas for photos of each plane and weapon featured in the museum. Aerospace teachers can use this site, for example, to show pictures of planes being studied in class. In contrast, history teachers can use those same photos in units on the evolution of transportation or warfare. This site truly is an interdisciplinary webpage and can be used to supplement lectures in many classrooms. After introducing this site, allow student pairs, groups, or individuals to explore and find an area of interest. Then extend student learning by asking them to research what more they can learn about their area of interest and create a Google Drawing. Chicago's Adler Planetarium offers this interesting introduction to the way in which early cultures interpreted the heavens. There are dozens of examples drawn from as many ancient cultures, and all organized into themes that would have been essential to these civilizations. A set of lesson plans rounds out this intriguing unit.
In the Classroom
Save this site as a favorite and use it for an all-around resource for a unit on astronomy. Take advantage of the free lesson plans offered in addition to the sections that could be used as learning centers by themselves. This is a great online excursion for students who don't have their own butterflies to observe. The videos reside on YouTube. If your district blocks YouTube, the videos may not be viewable.

Here's another great site from San Francisco's Exploratorium. Learn how researchers study the jungle, both on-site and in the laboratory. Users with high-speed connections will enjoy the Quicktime movie interviews with the scientists - further proof that science can be engaging, interesting, even fun. A few resources on this site require Flash, most don't, and there is a lot of information here.

Teachers will also find links to more extensive NASA classroom resources on Mars and plans for further explorations. NASA's web resources are huge, and finding suitable materials can sometimes require some experimenting. This site will certainly interest elementary-level explorers.
In the Classroom
You may want to introduce this site using the subject Space Place for Kids at the bottom of the page. Use your interactive whiteboard or projector and show them the All About Mars and the different Mars Rovers (robots). Bookmark the site on classroom computers (or in a lab) to allow students to explore the Adventure Game to Mars. Choose from topics and activities on this site to use in class or at computer centers. Replace paper journals and enhance classroom technology use by asking students to reflect on their learning in blog entries using Penzu. Satisfy your interest in the weather with Tree House Weather for Kids. Designed for students in grades 5-8, this site covers Seasons, Air Pressure, Clouds, and Rock and Roll Weather (types of storms, of course!). Leave the sound on to have text read as you proceed through each section, or turn off sound to read independently. Explore the small activity section containing quick practice activities for identifying clouds, weather forecasting, and exploring the distance to the sun. Another activity contains weather comics with a template for creating your own weather comic. Be sure to check out the Teacher's Guide for many additional resources and teaching ideas. Your Spanish-speaking students will also benefit from this site, simply click the "Espanol" link near the bottom of the page to view in Spanish. At the time this review was last updated, two of the activities were not working, however all of the content remained on the site.

Each playlist includes an engaging downloadable activity packet loaded with fascinating information about the featured topic's countries, musicians, and musical instruments. In the Classroom
Share this fantastic site with your school's music teacher, but save it to use with students for a variety of different lessons. For example, incorporate music into your lessons when teaching about worldwide countries, taking advantage of the featured playlists in the educators' section. Engage students with an introductory activity using IdeaBoardz, reviewed here to add sticky notes with students' knowledge of specific instruments, countries, or different kinds of music. Here's a collection of science lesson plans covering disciplines from geology to earth science, chemistry, and general science. Each includes complete procedures, standards references, and discussion. Some of these lessons use video clips as an integral component, so teachers will want to plan accordingly.
In the Classroom
The lesson plans here are excellent! Choose from many lessons (levels 4-12) to use in class to save you time. All lessons have a summary explaining what you and students will encounter with that lesson. Some example titles are The Ladder of Life where through video and Web-based activities, the students will develop a greater understanding of what DNA does in a cell. Students will be able to assemble DNA parts in order to simulate DNA strands. They will also have the opportunity to experimentally view DNA through an extraction technique included in the lesson. Another is Evolution: Its Effect Throughout Geological Time and the Controversy where students review the basics of Charles Darwin's Theory of Evolution. They use the World Wide Web to explore the various stages of evolution, over geological time, and learn how each organism fits into the evolutionary story.
