In the Classroom
Have students play several rounds independently, then record three problems from the game and explain the subtraction or counting-up strategy they used to find each amount of change. Assign students to compare two strategies for making change, such as subtracting the cost from the amount paid and counting up from the cost, then collect their explanations in a Google Forms exit ticket, reviewed here. Ask pairs to post one challenging purchase-and-change problem on Padlet, reviewed here, then have classmates solve and respond to several problems before discussing efficient strategies as a whole class.You must be registered and logged in to add items to your favorites.
