Students can test variables, collect data, and explain the physics behind their results. Have students watch an APS video or read an article about a current scientific discovery. Students can summarize the findings, identify the scientific questions being investigated, and discuss how evidence supports the conclusions. Students can work in teams to create a model exhibit that teaches visitors about a physics concept such as energy, magnetism, light, or motion. Students can practice recognizing coins, matching values, and improving speed and accuracy while working independently or with partners. Pair the digital activities with hands-on manipulatives by giving students real or plastic coins to match those shown in the game. Students can sort, count, and build matching amounts after each round. Create a classroom money challenge where students complete a digital game and then record their scores, mistakes, or strategies in a math journal. In the Classroom
Allow students to create collaborative drawings as responses to literature. They can map out the plot or themes, add labels, create character studies, and more. Share the finished products on an interactive whiteboard, projector, or your class website. Have a group of students create a drawing that another group can use as a writing prompt. Use Web Whiteboard as a brainstorming or sketching space for groups or the class to share ideas for a significant project or to solve a real-world problem. Use this site with students in a computer lab (or on laptops) to create a drawing of the story's setting as it is read aloud. As a creative assessment idea, have students draw out a simple cartoon with stick figures to explain a more complex process, such as how a democracy works. If you are lucky enough to teach in a BYOD setting, use Web Whiteboard to demonstrate and illustrate any concept while students use the chat and drawing tools to interact in real time. If you are studying weather, have students diagram the layers of the atmosphere and the processes that occur during a thunderstorm. Introduce this tool to students who are working on group projects. Alternatively, have students use this to work with partners or in small teams to complete complex math problems or equations. Give students a problem by typing it on their board. Instead of a one-time professional development session, consider creating an ongoing podcast using Buzzsprout, reviewed here to share new technology tools, provide advice and tips, and answer common questions.
