While most of this site deals with visiting Versailles, students will find sections dealing with the King's daily routine and the life of the French court in the 17th and 18th centuries. In addition, there are images of some of the more notable artwork, and of course, large sections available "seulement en Francais," which we hope will please the world language teachers. There's nothing like it elsewhere. There is an incredible amount of information to discover at this site by scrolling down the home page AND click on the Explore tab at the top of the home page. There are a few videos that are hosted on YouTube, if your district blocks YouTube they may not be viewable.

Introduce this site on your interactive whiteboard or projector. Use the menus to explore the "hidden" content. Then divide the class into small groups based on their area of interest and have them research their topic. Challenge them to research other sources to learn even more about the palace and its inhabitants. The site will be useful both for art instruction and for math or science study. We were delighted to find illustrations large enough to show the intricacies of these images. Even younger students will respond to, "What's going on in this picture?" discussions of these images.

Students reading Twain's books may be surprised to know that he lived in Hartford, not along the Mississippi. This site from the restored home offers a virtual tour, a kids' section with a word search, and some very basic information about the house. This one's worth a look for those interested in late 19th century architecture.

Use this site as an supplement to the book "One Thousand Paper Cranes." After the students have completed the book, use some class time to allow students to create their own cranes in class. Introduce the site on the interactive whiteboard before allowing students to explore it further in cooperative learning groups. Once students have created a crane, encourage them to try more complicated shapes and figures! Use the images and videos in the exhibit for a visual discovery activity. Select 3-4 images, placing them on a slide-show presentation. Have students take notes on each of the images and videos, noting what they observe, infer and predict about each one. After the presentation, have a class discussion based around student notes. This would be great review activity before an assessment, allowing students to apply the knowledge just learned. The Mississippi Writers and Musicians website is a helpful and easy-to-use resource that now includes not just authors and musicians, but also artists and actors from Mississippi. It is run by the Mississippi Writers and Musicians group. The site features short biographies, facts, and information about the lives and work of many famous Mississippians. The University of Mississippi first developed it, but now it offers even more. This is a great place for students to learn about the people who have shaped Mississippi's culture in writing, music, art, and film.

Give students a list of fun facts (e.g., "Won a Grammy," "Wrote a bestselling novel") and a list of names from the site. Students can use the website to match each fact with the correct person. Each student selects one writer, musician, artist, or actor from the site and creates a trading card that includes their photo, a brief biography, a notable achievement, and a quote or fun fact. Have them use paper or a template from Canva, reviewed here. Have students research one person from the site and write an imagined interview, with 5-7 questions and answers. Introduce the exhibits and objects page using a projector or an interactive whiteboard, and have students partner read the biographical information about Rossett. Have students take notes using Webnote, reviewed here; tell students to be sure to save the URL to share their notes and questions with you and their peers. Next, show students how to navigate the exhibits and objects page. Ask partners or small groups to choose one topic from the list of Pictures, Poems, etc. Then, in your flipped or blended classroom (or at a computer center), have students explore independently while continuing to take online notes. In the Classroom
Read about the different panels in partners or small groups, or at a classroom computer center for students to access independently. Then consider having students watch the silent 15-minute video either at home or at the computer center as a small group, in partners, or independently. Have them write down questions about the part or parts they would like to know more about. This video isn't download-able or a YouTube or Vimeo, so the best way for students to identify the part(s) they're interested in would be to have them describe the part they want to know more about using a journaling tool like Penzu. With Penzu they can add their own artwork as illustrations. Use this site as a learning center or station during a unit on Renaissance art in Europe. There is art that encompasses other time periods, but a good majority of it is from the Renaissance era. Allow students to peruse the site in cooperative learning groups, with the intentions of presenting their own summary of what they read on the site.
