In the Classroom
Challenge your students to act as delivery route planners for a trucking company. Give them a list of deliveries to different locations and challenge them to plan the most efficient route, making a map on Google My Maps, reviewed here. Discuss real-world challenges like weather, fuel costs, and road conditions. Students can analyze real-world supply chain disruptions (ex., pandemic delays, natural disasters, fuel shortages). In groups, they can research an event and present how it impacted industries, prices, and consumers. Have students pick a common item, such as a smartphone, sneakers, or a banana, and research its journey from production to their hands. Students can create a timeline using Time Graphics Timeline Maker, reviewed here or Timelinely, reviewed here. Showing each transportation step (factories, warehouses, shipping, trucking, stores). Have students research a skilled trade (such as welding, carpentry, plumbing, or HVAC) and create a short presentation, poster, or video that explains the job role, required skills, and career opportunities. They can also include salary potential and education pathways in a presentation made on Visme, reviewed here or Genially, reviewed here. In the Classroom
Challenge your students to research a high-demand career from the collection and prepare a one-minute pitch about their chosen career, including job duties, required skills, and salary information. In a "speed networking" format, students can rotate and share their career pitches with classmates. Students can also choose an in-demand career and create a roadmap showing the steps to enter the field, including education, internships, or certifications. The "roadmap" can be created using an online resource such as MindMup reviewed here. In groups, have students select an in-demand industry, such as healthcare, technology, or skilled trades, and brainstorm ways to improve efficiency or solve a challenge in that field. With thousands of materials available, students and teachers can explore topics such as project management, house and slope construction, heavy equipment operation, carpentry, and more. Lesson plans cover areas like profit estimation, design principles, solar racing, and dam building, each providing a summary, estimated time, learning objectives, preparation steps, procedures, and standards alignment. Resources can be filtered by grade level, subject area, type, media length, language, accessibility features, and more. All materials can be easily shared via Google Classroom, direct links, or social media, and members can customize and extend lessons as needed.

The highlighted jobs include scientists, firefighters, architects, musicians, delivery persons, and veterinarians. Other games include Elmo and Grover visiting a farm, Cookie Monster's Foodie Truck Game allowing for following a recipe, and Bert and Ernie's Super Salad for finishing food orders.

The ASVAB Test (Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery) is designed to be taken by incoming members of the military to determine aptitude for different areas of the service. This site provides questions emulating the test for anyone to take to help identify areas of interest and likely successful career choices. Take any or all portions online using the site, including science, math, word knowledge, paragraph comprehension, and mechanical options. In addition to practice tests, this site provides information about ASVAB testing, videos, and history. If your district blocks YouTube, the videos may not be viewable.

Share with students to take as practice for upcoming ASVAB testing at your school. ASVAB testing isn't just for students interested in a military career. "What do you want to do for a living?" is the springboard for this career and guidance site from the US Department of Labor. Choose from three options depending on how sharply focused your career goals are. Consider job titles, explore general career groups, or take an interest inventory to help guide you. Each job title links to a fuller description: the skills, abilities, and knowledge needed for the job, the education required, the job prospects in that career and the personality traits that are linked to success in the career. Click on the icon to the left of the job titles to see what sort of knowledge and skills you need to whether the long term prospects for growth in that category are strong, whether the career is part of the "green economy" and whether there are internships or job training programs associated with that career.

Ask students to complete the interest inventory independently to get insight and ideas about possible careers. Then use the examples from students' results to explore representative industries or job titles. Help students appreciate that career planning is an ongoing process that includes education, aptitudes, and personality in order to find a "good fit." My Next Move is a great resource for helping students get more concrete information and insight into the sometimes vexing question of "what I want to do when I grow up." Learn and explore everything about agriculture, food processing, sustainable farming, and equipment engineering interactively at this informate and entertaining site! The activities feature different concepts and promote various aspects of agriculture, math, science and society. Hover over the game icon with your mouse to view a short description of the activity, approximate playing time, grade range, curriculum area, and agriculture theme. At the end of each interactive, you can watch short, related video stories from the public television show "America's Heartland." Don't miss the Equipment Engineering challenge. The Educator Resources section contains standards, implementation ideas, and many activity sheets for classroom use. View resources by curriculum area or agriculture topic using the links on the left or the grade level at the top of this section.

This site is great during units on plants, farms, conservation, or even inventions and engineering. Create links to games on classroom computers. As students complete games, let them fill out the passport included on the site. Print and use classroom activities included on the site as a supplement to current lessons. Have students create their own comics to explain a topic from the site using comic-creation tools from this collection.
