December is Read a New Book Month and the ideal time to share new books with your students. In this collection, you’ll find resources to discover books, collections of audiobooks, free downloadable ebooks, websites that share book reviews written by students, and more.

Grades K-12

TeachersFirst Reading Treks

A great place to start on your quest to find new books is our Reading Treks, which connect literature to a journey. Find a book to share with your entire class, along with a teacher guide and interactive map featuring locations from the story!

Grades K-6

Google Read Along

Google Read Along is an entertaining, interactive website designed to help young children learn to read. The site is available in 10 languages, provides assistance with troubling words, and tracks how many minutes students spend actively reading.

Grades K-6

ReaderKidZ

Introduce budding readers and writers to the authors and books found on ReaderKidZ. Click the Select a Month tab from the left menu to find several books and activities under each month listed. You’ll also find picture books for non-readers.

Grades K-12

BeeLine Reader Collection

Find over 100 books and stories as downloadable PDFs, all using BeeLine Reader technology to highlight and wrap text to improve focus and tracking while reading. Additional supports for each book include author interviews, lesson plans, and puzzles.

Grades K-12

Toppsta

Read, review, and discover the best books for all ages at Toppsta. Use the keyword search to find books for toddlers, children, and young adults up to age 18. The page for each book includes a summary along with reviews submitted by site members.

Grades 7-12

BookBub

Enter your email address and tell BookBub your genre preferences and preferred reading device or app (Nook, Kindle, Google Play, etc.), and you’ll be presented with a list of authors to follow and a list of books based on the genres you selected!

Grades K-10

Classic Books

Explore this collection of public domain, classic books for children and teenagers from the Library of Congress. There are 51 books for younger children, 6 for teens, and 6 for adults. Each has a summary and a link to more information.

Grades K-8

Unite for Literacy Library

The Unite for Literacy Library offers many online books with audio for young readers. Search, select, and click a book to read it. Click the speaker icon to hear each page. Narration is available in many languages, from Arabic to Vietnamese.

Grades K-3

Mighty Book

Engage young children with this colorful site packed with songs, interactive audio books, art and music interactives, and emergent reading activities. The site offers over 50 engaging activities and several books for a wide range of grades.

Grades 4-12

LitPick

LitPick is a great place to find books for preteens and teens reviewed by students worldwide. Books are listed by genre or age group. Under Educators, you’ll find an educators guide, quizzes, and lessons. Your students can also apply to review books!
